Get Your Affairs In Order Part 2
Hello everyone! Here goes my second estate planning blog. I just want to share some more things I have learned through Bob’s death and from the experiences of others that have shared with me. These are a few simple often overlooked items to get in order and check out.
• Make sure your name is on all accounts/utilities/credit cards/etc.… or they may not talk to you without a lot of work and documentation.
• Make sure your vehicle titles are in both names with “or” in between and not “and” to again avoid a lot of complications.
• Have a list of all passwords- including phone password - so you can go in and take care of business seamlessly.
• Check and make sure who your beneficiaries are on any life insurance policies you have - especially if your spouse had the policy before you married (one of Bob's ADD policies had another family member on there still so they got that check that would have paid for Bob’s funeral)
• Check the details of what is needed in order to pay out on any policies (one of Bob's needed a toxicology report that we didn’t have so I had go through quite an appeal process)
• Make sure to know also how they define accidental death.
• Be sure what happens to your health insurance if it is in your spouse’s name. (The girls and I lost our health insurance and Emma was pregnant).
I do believe that whatever comes your way all will work out, however, these are sure struggles that can knock you down when you are already low so work on them now. I love you all! Thanks for all your love and caring. I sure am blessed! I would love to hear of you.
