Get Your Affairs In Order Part 3
Everyone should have a couple important people in their world to help them through the estate planning process. You should find yourself an attorney that you trust and talk with them about your situation so that they can guide you in what is best for you. An attorney can draw up a will, a durable power of attorney, a durable power of electronic attorney, medical directives, any kind of trust that you might want to have or maybe a deed upon death is to transfer the property seamlessly when you or your spouse pass away. Anything that you can set up ahead of time so things do not have to go through probate will make life easier for those left behind or you if you’re the one left behind.
And you should have a CPA/financial advisor, even if it doesn’t seem like you have much net worth at this point, it is good to get things laid out, ask about things like term or whole life insurance for yourself or for your children. At the very least, you should have a will laying out your instructions. And attached to it a living document that changes over time of your special personal property that you would like given to certain people.
It is wise to have a small safe at your home or a safe deposit box with all of your important paperwork in there - your wills, birth certificates, passports, titles to your vehicles, insurance policy paperwork, etc… these are just my thoughts having been through the death of my husband, please consult your attorney for any legal advice. If you have any wise words to share with others from an experience you’ve been through, please let me know. Faith
